Manchester United is an English playing football club, who has their home stadium in Manchester, the name of the stadium is Old trafford. The club started up in 1878, then with the name Newton Heath LYR(Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway) FC. In 1892 the club joined the English Football League. Since 1938 Manchester has been playing in the English Top divisjon, except for the 1974- 75 season. Their football trainer at this moment is Sir Alex Ferguson. He got his Sir status because of what he has done for English Football. In 1968, Manchester was the first English club to win the European Football cup.
The United Accident
The 6. February 1958, United was on their way home from a match in Germany. The plane the players where flying with, had to refill the tank in Munich. When the plane where suppose to take of, the plane crashed. The accident claimed the life of eight players along with 15 other passengers. Manchester thought of resigning the club, but Jimmy Murphy lead the english club to second place with most of the players from the spare team.
The Treble
In 1999, Manchester United won the Treble. The last final was the champions league at Camp Nou in Barcelona against Bayern Munich. It was a very special game for the english club, becaus Bayern was leading 1-0 until the end, then Manchester scored 2 goals into injury time. The Famous Norwgian player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scored the winning goal.
